On April 11th at 12.00 (CET), Savas Dilibal, associate professor at the Istanbul Gedik University, presents the workshop "Hybrid Soft Robotic Applications with Embedded Nickel Titanium SMA Actuators". The workshop will take place in Aula 3 (The BioRobotics Institute).

Abstract

A new trend is started in robotics with the innovation of the application based additively manufactured soft robotic systems. The additive manufacturing of the elastomeric materials based soft inflatable actuators changes dramatically the mechanism and structure of the robotic systems. These soft robotic systems have two major characteristics which are continuum body motion and large scale deformation. Especially, the asymmetric shell pattern design with fixed end boundary conditions provides the required motion with large scale deformation. Their hyperelastic responses were applied in various soft robotics applications. Meanwhile, the shape memory effect and superelastic characteristics of the shape memory alloys provide a large deformation under mechanical or thermal loading Upon unloading, these thermo elastic materials revert back to the initial geometry with a minimum permanent deformation. Their flexible structures provide a high degree of freedom with
lightweight mechanism Soft robotic systems are assembled with the collaborative industrial manipulators for grasping delicate or complex objects in industry. Additively manufactured hybrid soft robotics systems are started to be used in the biomedical applications for multiple purposes. Assoc Prof Dilibal will elaborate his recent studies on the additively manufactured soft robotic systems during his talk.
